The Story Behind the Artwork

This piece was born from earth and brew — charcoal and coffee pressed into paper to capture movement that can’t be pinned down. The dancers in Mystery of Sound don’t just move; they echo. Their forms rise from smudges and washes, as if sound itself had stained the surface while passing through. Charcoal gives the work its bones: sharp, gestural lines that carve out muscle, tension, and the split-second before motion breaks free. The deep blacks hold the weight of a bass note — felt more than heard, resonating in the chest. Over and around it, coffee washes bleed and bloom. The brown tones soften edges, create haze, and mimic the way a melody lingers after the note has gone. Each stain is unpredictable, alive, much like sound in a room you can’t control.
