The Story Behind the Artwork
I made AFRICAN QUEEN because I wanted to see our Culture wear a crown . The Ankara is not just cloth, it is history gummed to canvas. I gave her hair the shape of a crown because African women carry kingdoms on their heads. The green gives her life, the black gives her strength. This Queen is freshness, hope, and power. She is home.
