The Story Behind the Artwork
Beyond the Scar came from my reflection on the things we carry after difficult experiences. Some wounds leave marks, and sometimes those marks become part of how we see ourselves. I wanted to show a woman who is not ashamed of what she has survived. She looks back at her scar, but she also looks beyond it. The butterfly represents transformation and the possibility of becoming something beyond the experience that once defined her. For me, the work is a reminder that vulnerability is not weakness. What happened to us can be part of our story without becoming the whole story.
