The Story Behind the Artwork

ERU: fear, awe, the weight of something felt before it is understood. She does not ask to be understood. Her face carries the evidence of appetite: smoke held between the lips, symbols of indulgence resting against the body, and a gaze that feels strangely distant despite its intimacy. She exists somewhere between the woman we see and the things she refuses to reveal. The work explores the weight of the self — the desires we entertain, the vices we inherit, the pleasures we protect, and the secrets that slowly become part of our appearance. ERU is not a portrait of fear. It is a portrait of what fear looks like when it learns to wear beauty.
