Alienation, 2026 Hand-drawn and digitally rendered Limited edition fine-art print Edition of 20 Professionally framed ALIENATION — 2026 Alienation explores the complicated relationship between being seen, being understood, and choosing who is allowed access to us. The work was inspired by my personal experience of feeling alienated even in moments of connection — the feeling of being surrounded by people while still feeling emotionally distant, misunderstood, or unable to fully express myself. At the centre of the piece is an alien figure, surrounded by multiple eyes, each representing the different ways people perceive us. I am interested in how a person can exist as many different versions of themselves depending on who is looking. We are constantly interpreted through the eyes of others, and sometimes those perceptions have very little to do with how we understand ourselves. The fingerprint sensor positioned at the mouth is particularly personal to me. It represents access, boundaries, and the things we reveal through speech. Sometimes, when I become comfortable with someone, I find myself talking too much, over-explaining, or revealing parts of myself that I later wish I had kept private. The fingerprint becomes a metaphor for a personal security system: not everyone should have the password to every part of me. Some things should only be accessible to those who have earned that level of trust. The work carries feelings of introspection, vulnerability, self-awareness, and emotional isolation, while also questioning the ways we protect ourselves from being misunderstood.
The Story Behind the Artwork
ALIENATION, 2026 Alienation explores the feeling of being both seen and misunderstood — of existing among people while still feeling strangely separate from them. At the centre of the work is an alien figure, surrounded by eyes representing the many ways we are perceived. Each eye suggests a different gaze, a different interpretation of who we are. We are rarely seen in only one way; we become different versions of ourselves through the eyes of others. The fingerprint sensor at the mouth represents my relationship with vulnerability and expression. There are moments when I become too comfortable and speak more than I intended, revealing parts of myself that I later wish I had kept private. The sensor becomes a kind of emotional access point, a reminder that not everyone should have the password to me. Alienation is therefore not only about feeling disconnected from others. It is also about boundaries, perception, self-protection, and the desire to control who gets access to the parts of us that we keep hidden.
