Unbound - Eric jnr Okafor What would you become if you stopped allowing your limitations to define you? Unbound is an expressive contemporary artwork about freedom, self-discovery, and the courage to move beyond the boundaries that hold us back. Through movement, colour, and expressive abstraction, the work captures the tension between who we have been and who we are still becoming. It speaks to anyone who has ever felt confined by expectations, held back by fear, or caught between the comfort of familiarity and the desire for something greater. More than a visual statement, Unbound is an invitation to embrace change, reclaim your individuality, and make room for the person you are becoming. Created for collectors who value art with emotional depth and personal meaning, Unbound brings a sense of movement, boldness, and reflection into a space. "Because sometimes, the most important freedom is the one we give ourselves."

The Story Behind the Artwork

The Things That Hold Us There comes a point when you begin to question the limits you have lived with for so long. Some were placed on you by other people. Others came from fear, past experiences, expectations, and the quiet voice that tells you to remain where you are. Over time, these things can become so familiar that you stop questioning them. You learn to live within their boundaries, even when something inside you longs for more. Unbound came from a reflection on that struggle: the moment when the desire to become something more begins to outweigh the fear of leaving what you know. I wanted the work to carry a sense of movement, as though something within it refuses to remain still. To me, that movement reflects the human experience of breaking away, finding direction, and discovering parts of ourselves we have not yet fully explored. Freedom, I have come to understand, is not always a dramatic escape. Sometimes, it begins with a decision. A change in perspective. The willingness to stop seeing yourself through the limitations of your past. With Unbound, I invite you to consider a personal question: What part of yourself are you ready to set free? Perhaps the answer is different for everyone. That is part of what makes art meaningful to me. A work can begin with one person's reflection and become something entirely personal in the eyes of another. Unbound is my invitation to make that connection.
