This painting, titled Star Child, is a meditation on identity, cosmos, and heritage. The central figure is rendered in a luminous, deep black — not as absence, but as presence. His face is calm, his lips softly highlighted in red, his gaze direct yet distant. Around him, a second shadow of his afro creates a double-exposure effect, suggesting duality — the self we show and the self we carry, the past and the present existing at once. The background is a textured teal sky scattered with hand-painted stars and crescent moons, a quiet universe that holds him. It evokes a night sky over Ibadan — vast, watching, ancestral. He wears a garment in vibrant burnt orange, covered in my signature symbolic pattern: eyes, spirals, geometry, and organic shapes in white and black. The pattern is not just decoration; it is language. It represents culture, memory, and the stories stitched into what we wear. The eyes on the cloth suggest being seen, being watched, but also inner vision. The contrast is intentional: the deep, still black of the skin against the energetic, colorful pattern of the cloth and the soft, dreamy cosmos behind. It speaks to the balance we all navigate — between stillness and noise, tradition and cosmos, self and universe. This work is part of my ongoing exploration of the Sweetness of Being — the quiet power of existing as you are, even when the world is vast and full of stars. Signed AyeW 20...
